Single Tree is about 2105m and Kikiliyamana about 2143m and they are the border of Nuwaraeliya from Western side. Reaching to the both peaks is very easy and no need of special permission. The Single Tree road is situated near to the Race Course (6.961011, 80.767516). We can travel up to the Swarnagiri maha viharaya Temple via the narrow road by any vehicle but after that we have to walk or else go by a 4WD vehicle.
It’s just about 0.5 hours to the peak from the temple and the path is very bad. Once we reached to the Single tree we enter to the foot path way situated just behind the entrance gate to the towers. This foot path directly goes to Shanthipura via Unique View village. Unique view is a village which noticed as a dangerous area to live due to landslides.
After that we walked through the thick forest and the foot pathway is little bit vanishable. However since we have the great resource from Nuwaraeliya we took all permissions verbally. Once we get in to the Shanthipura area we will meet Kalapura Village and the Observation Desk. Thereis a caretaker at the point and he issue tickets to enter to the place. Ticket is just about 20/- and the observation point is a brilliant place to see entire beauty of Gregory lake and surrounding.
After that we walked up to Shanthipura temple road and walked further to the Kikiliyamana peak. It is about 10km from Single tree but we don’t feel any problems due to the cold and misty environment. After that we reached to the entrance gate of Police towers.
People can go by a three wheeler, van, and lorry or even from a Tiper to the peak of Kikiliyamana as the road is bit widest. Once we enter to the police towers area we talked with the officers and they allowed us to be there. After that they showed us a shortcut where we can go to Shanthipura in 15 minutes. It’s situated through a pines forest patch under 60 degree slope.
However we came near to the Public pipe and had a wash there. Here we saw the Leopard rock very closely and the Piduruthalagala too.
