The map

Navanagala is a prominent peak of knuckles range and its identifiable from many destinations due to its unique shape. Protruding southwards from knuckles mountain belt this seems to be an ideal location for a surveyor and the carvings of the surveyors which were found on the summit justified it.

in the center is the hidden 2nd peak

We reached Hunnasgiriya town early morning and started ascending along the pines plot which was tough at some points. After the long climb we reached the mountain forest which led us towards the 1st peak. The first peak provided some stunning views towards Piduruthalagala side.

From this point we descended towards the small valley between the main peak and the 1st peak. There was a small stream bisecting these two peaks where we refilled our water bottles. From here it was a gradual climb avoiding the bamboo forest as we can. At one point we reached a wide open bare area which is suitable for camping and from here it was a short climb to the summit.

On our way to the summit we reached the first view point towards Udu dumbara side. Next was the summit with Erskine engraving signifying the importance of this mountain for surveyors. Just beyond the summit is a bushy area where one could have a splendid view towards Randenigala and Rikillagaskada side. Please refer the images for for landmarks.
