This was an instant journey which we were planned on that day. However, we had to visit these two places since we don’t have an option at that time due to the time.
Thalpe Beach and Natural Bathing pits
Thalpe Beach is a beach situated in the Southern province of Sri Lanka, close to the city of Galle. It is a popular destination among both locals and foreigners. There are vibrant shops, restaurants, and various water sports-related activities to do in the surrounding area of Thalpe.
Thalpe is a quiet town nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the major towns situated in the southern coastal belt. Thalpe town is filled with history, adventure, culture and cuisine along with the Thalpe Beach which is a relatively clean and calm beach. Stilt fishermen are commonly seen in this coastal town and it is a great way to learn more about the way of life in this beautiful coastal town.
According to the villagers the rock pools were cut out of the corals around 50 years ago and were used to soak coconut husks in order to separate the coconut coir.
From Galle travel along the Matara Road for approximately 11.2 km to reach Thalpe where the Thalpe Beach is situated.
Coconut Tree Hill Mirissa
Coconut Tree Hill is a unique cliff situated in Mirissa. This cliff is located at the end of a beach which is covered in coconut trees. Coconut Tree Hill is a popular tourist attraction in Mirissa and tourists flock here to capture beautiful images of this unique location. The cliff is located 4 m above sea level and is a famous location due to its picturesque beauty on instagram.
Coconut Tree Hill is presumably the most well-known place in Mirissa. You can watch the infinite sea and Mirissa bay area from the top of this amazing place. It takes you 10-15 min walk up the street from Mirissa Beach. You can reach here through Bandaramulla temple and also you can access this place via the beach. Accessing via the beach would be difficult if the sea is rough.
This place has become so popular that a lot of people wish to make a popular frame of the headland leaving the sea with coconut trees. We recommend reaching this place in the morning or before sunset. If you love this place, make sure don’t throw any rubbish here. From Mirissa travel approximately 3 km along the Matara Road and turn to Coconut Tree Hill Road to reach the Coconut Tree Hill.
