Sudugala Mountain was a dream of me since we did our Duwili Falls hike. Then we planned this hike with a group of my friends and we contacted Ekanayake uncle as our guide. He promised us to take to the top of the Sudugala mountain but unfortunately, when we came to the Sudugala Bungalow he said that he was not been there in his lifetime. Then we had to climb that mountain by using GPS but since he didn’t tell us this issue I even not pre-downloaded the google maps of this range.
However, I took the decision to climb up to Sudugala mountain from the Bungalow at 1.30 pm. As per the view we have seen in the garden it was clear to climb the nearest mountain and then we have to walk along the ridge of that until we meet Sudugala mountain. But, unfortunately, it took a lot of time to hike that mountain since it was fully covered by trees and muddy areas as well as there was so much slippery land.
By the time we were able to reach to the top of the tail of Sudugala mountain and the time was about 5.30 pm and we decided to walk further. When the darkness was entered into the forest patch we saw that the time is near to 7 pm and we have reached only up to a height of 1530m and we have about 80-90 to climb. By considering the female friends and other weak people I decided to give up the hike and got down to the Thelgamu oya to enter the footpath which we came in the morning.
So, we had a difficult hike in that part since we had to struggle in the darkness. However, we came to the footpath around 9 pm, and then all of us were fully tired and without enough food. Then we walked up to Telgamu oya and Ekanayake uncle guided us with me. During that walk, I have seen one of the most venomous snakes called “Mudu Karawala” just about a step behind. And some of our friends also seen that beauty and were protected and continued the walk further. Then we came to the bus at 12 am-midnight. And later we left Etanwala and reached to Colombo at 7 am in the next day morning.
This was a memorable hike for me as I was unable to complete Sudugala hike and this is the only hike that I was not completed during a journey. But I much happy that even I and a few of our friends were fit enough to continue up to the summit in the darkness I decided to give up this at a distance of just 90m height (Maybe 300-400m hike) considering the safety of others.

The stories behind the Sudugala bungalow :
සුදුගල ප්‍රදේශයේ ඉදිකළ හෝටලය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ දුම්බර අඩවියේ හොඳින් සැඟවගත් ප්‍රදේශයක ය. රත්තොට – ඉළුක්කුඹුර (බී 274 මාර්ගය) මාර්ගයේ 27 හා 28 කිලෝමීටර කණු අතරින් සුදුගල ප්‍රදේශය දක්වා විහිදී ඇති කරත්ත මාර්ගයේ කිලෝමීටර 8 ක් පමණ දුරින් මාර්ගය අවසානයේ මේ හෝටලය පිහිටා ඇත. රෝයි ද සිල්වා යන අයට අයත් ව තිබූ රත්නින්ද, සුදුගල හෙක්ටයාර 21.915 ක් වන ඉඩම හිටපු ගුවන් හමුදාපතිවරයා විසින් මිල දී ගනු ලැබ මේ විශාල හෝටලය ඉදි කරන ලදි. මේ ඉඩම ලග්ගල ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් විසින් ඉඩම් අත්පත් කර ගැනීමේ පනතට අනුව පවරා ගනු ලැබීමට නියෝග නිකුත් කළ ඉඩමකි. එවන් ඉඩමක කිසිදු ඉදිකිරීමක් හෝ සංවර්ධන කටයුත්තක් සිදු කළ නොහැකි වුවත් ගුවන් හමුදා සෙබළුන් ගේ ආරක්ෂාව යටතේ මේ හෝටලය ඉදි කළ අතර අද වන විට ද ඒ ප්‍රදේශයට කිසිවකුට ඇතුළු නොවිය හැකි ආකාරයට ආරක්ෂාව යොදා ඇත. මේ හෝටලයේ ප්‍රධාන පිවිසුම් මඟ වන රත්තොට – ඉළුක්කුඹුර මාර්ගයේ මෙම හෝටලය සඳහා නාම පුවරුවක් ද ඉදි කර තිබේ. ඒ නාම පුවරුව යටින් -පරිසර මවු නිති සුරකිමු ලෙස සඳහන් කරමින් මේ හෝටලයෙන් දුම්බර අඩවිය වැනැසීම සිදු කැරේ. ඒ බව හොඳින් තහවුරු වන්නේ මේ හෝටලයට පිවිසීමට දුම්බර අඩවිය ඔස්සේ තවත් මාර්ගයක් ලෙස කබරගල, නිකොලොය හරහා සුදුගල දක්වා මාර්ගයක් වනාන්තර හා පතන් බිම් ඔස්සේ ඉදි කිරීමෙනි. නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට සිටින රටේ වගකිව යුතු පුද්ගලයන් ම තම බලය අයුතු ලෙස යොදවා නීති උල්ලංඝනය කරමින් මෙවන් දෑ සිදු කිරීම කනගාටුවට කරුණකි.

නකල්ස් සංරක්ෂණ වනාන්තරය තුළ ගීරිස්වත්ත, කොස්ගොල්ලවත්ත, කෝබට්ගැප්, අට්ටලවෙට්ටුව (තංගප්පුව මාර්ගයේ), ගෝනමඩවත්ත(රිවස්ටන් ප්‍රදේශයේ), පතන හා සුදුගල යන නකල්ස් සංරක්ෂණ වනාන්තරයට පවරා ගැනීමට නියමිත ප්‍රදේශයන්හි පවා මේ වන විට ද හෝටල් ඉදිකර තිබෙනු දැක ගත හැකි ය.
