After climbing Henannegala in the morning we headed towards Dehiaththakandiya to conquer another iconic mountain. The name of it signifies its importance and its a prominent landmark of eastern Sri lanka. It resembles Sigiriya by shape so locals have named it as “Punchi Sigiriya”. Adjacent to this rock there is an ancient cave temple called Punchi Sigiriya RMV.

With the aid of Google maps we reached the base of the rock and had our lunch at a village house. The villager assured us that there is a clear path which ascends through the the valley of twin peaks. It was a continuous ascend(30min) on slippery leaves and there were remnants of man made railings too. at some places the railing was no more but the remaining protruding nails were only seen. So beware of these nails which could harm you if you were not on  the lookout.

After reaching the gap between the two peaks we started heading towards the highest peak. There was a nice flat rocky surface with a magnificent view towards Central Sri lanka, To get a view towards Eastern Sri Lanka one needs to traverse few bushes here and there. Since it was around 3pm we were lucky enough to see huge herds of elephants roaming around Maduru oya sanctuary. Both view points provided some stunning views towards many landmarks for example Knuckles range, Madulsima range, Dimbulagala side, Aralaganvila side, Thoppigala side, Maduru oya side, please refer the images to get to know those in detail.

After tasting a juicy melon we started descending back and it was a quick one. The steep path and slipperiness was pushing our bodies downwards, despite that we also kept in mind to avoid those nails which were pointing out of tree barks. After thanking the villager who let us halt our vehicles we departed towards Bibile.
