This was my first ever underwater diving experience and thought to share it with others. Scuba Diving is another entity of adventure but it needs some expensive equipment and follows the technique. As an amateur you always have to dive with a licensed diver. There are different sea diving locations around Sri Lanka and Unawatuna is one of that.
Diving was almost limited to foreign travellers before corona out break and there was recent popularity of diving among locals due to reduction of prices. We also thought of getting this one day experience of Diving at Unawatuna. As Unawatuna is known for diving there are different centers. We have selected Nature Worio diving center for our adventure.
At the beginning they are giving small introduction about diving basics and equipment we carry. Fins to be selected according to your foot size and you have to wear wet diving suit over your short. Air tanks, jackets, regulators, waist weights and goggle with nose cover are main equipment of diving.
First we had a small training session at shallow water to practice breathing through the mouth. Other two things you must know are to release the air pressure in your head during diving and to remove the water in your goggles. In diving hand language is the main way of communication.
After brief training session we were taken to deep water for diving. The area we dive called Goda Gala and it was about 10-15m depth. Always each amateur diver is followed by an experienced diver and they control our movements under the water.
It was really interesting and under water is so beautiful with colorful fishes and corals. We were there about 25-30 minutes and visited three main objectives: The motor bicycle, statue and shipwreck.
They have issued a certificate of participation at the end.
Let’s go through our pictures.
